Topic: Your First Estate Tax Return

Tips and practical advice for practitioners preparing their first estate tax returns or their 100th! A general review of recent changes that effect Federal returns and why the MN estate laws catch a lot of people by surprise.
Speaker: Brooke M. Hanssen, CPA
Brooke serves as Taft's Private Client group’s Certified Public Accountant. She brings extensive experience managing estate, gift, fiduciary, and individual tax compliance returns for hundreds of clients. Brooke helps achieve clients’ missions by developing, planning, and achieving their individual tax-related goals through comprehensive wealth transfer and income tax planning.
Prior to joining Taft, Brooke served as a Tax Senior Manager for a leading tax, audit, and consulting firm that focused on middle market clients. She also worked for seven years as the Estate, Gift, and Trust Service Area Leader for a CPA firm where she managed compliance requirements and on-time deliverables through thorough communication, and a solid understanding of her clients’ operations and goals.
Brooke previously served as a family accountant and Assistant Trust Officer for a multi-generational family office based in Wayzata, Minnesota. Among her responsibilities, she was responsible for reviewing monthly financial statements, and annual individual, partnership, trust, and S-corporation income tax returns, along with quarterly estimates and extensions.
Brooke earned a master of accountancy and a bachelor of science in business from the University of Minnesota. In addition, she is a CPA, licensed by the Minnesota State Board of Accountancy.
